1. When should I schedule a session?

Ben is available to shoot 7 days a week. So while it is flexible, he still books up pretty fast. The sooner you book, the better. Ben tries to help everyone out, so if you are in a big rush, he has been known to do a same day shoot. There is a $100 deposit to book a shoot, which is credited toward your end balance.

2. Where are the pictures taken?

Most shoots are in the Jack London Square Warehouse District in Oakland which is where ben krantz STUDIO is located; usually outside to take advantage of the hundreds of different backgrounds and great light in that area. Ben does location photography as well – the more out of the box, the more fun. He’s done shoots on a beach in Lake Tahoe, golf courses, alleys, warehouses, bars, and standards like the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The truth is, Ben can shoot anywhere you like, but the location will affect the price if it is outside of the Jack London area.

3. How long will it take?

Every shoot is different. How many outfits and styles you want may alter the time. Ben recommends you set aside at least 2 hours for shooting and proofing. Sometimes clients can be done in as little as an hour. If you want to shoot several outfits, it can go up to 3 hours for shooting and proofing. If you are in a time crunch, just let Ben know and he will be happy to adapt whatever he can to meet your schedule.

4. What should I wear?

Whether it’s for professional corporate headshots, theatrical headshots or even a family portrait, Ben always recommends the same thing: wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and confident. Bring 4-5 different outfits, and together with Ben, you’ll pick out what works best for the shoot. Avoid busy patterns or textures, graphics as well as solid blacks or whites. If there are multiple people in the shoot, Ben recommends wearing similar tones and styles, but try to steer clear of identical outfits.

5. What should I bring with me?

In addition to clothing options, please bring any hair or makeup products that you use, as well as a brush, etc.

6. How many photos will you take?

There are no limits on how many shots Ben takes. He will shoot as many as it takes to get lots of great photos for you to choose from. Even on smaller shoots, Ben usually ends up taking hundreds of pictures.

7. When do I get to see proofs?

You get to see the rough images right away! If you shoot in or around the studio, you will sit down with Ben at the computer immediately following the shoot and pick which images you want. If you shoot on location, you will be able to proof online.

8. What do I get from the shoot?

Your favorite image from the shoot will be edited, retouched, and enhanced, plus any additional you order. 30-60 minutes is spent on each image to make them look amazing. Those images will be emailed directly to you in high resolution. The copyright on those finished images is released to you, so you can print, or post whatever and wherever you like.

9. When do I get my finished pictures?

Finished images from most shoots are usually ready within days, depending on the quantity of images ordered.  If you need them sooner, let Ben know and he can take care of you. If you order prints, it can take up to two weeks. Rush orders are also available.

10. What if I have other questions?

Whether you prefer to call, email, text, or Facebook, choose your favorite method of communication and Ben will get back to you as soon as possible.
